Why read the Word of God every day?
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
The Word of God is powerful and alive. It is a double-edged sword that cuts through falseness. God’s word is Holy and sheds light on the darkness. It illuminates and teaches. As humans, we need to keep that connection alive with God and we do this by being in the Word every day. We need to know God daily to be close to Him and we get to do this through spending time with Him who loves us.
His Word is Holy, but what does holy mean?
ho·ly
/ˈhōlē/
adjective
1. dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred.
“the Holy Bible”
Holy means it is sacred. God’s word is true and powerful deserving great respect. Reading God’s word every day has changed my life. His word has cut dead weight in my life I was carrying by making me more perfect in His image and deepened my connection to love. I learned about obedience and He opened my heart so I may give and live a fulfilling life. The renewal of our mind happens every day, so we must be in the word every day so this renewal can take place.
Here are 4 Blessings You Receive From Reading the Bible Every Day:
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
- Teaching/ Instruction
Teach means to show or explain to (someone) how to do something. We are children of God and need to be taught. That is why we came to earth, to learn, play, and grow. There are things we need to be taught because we were not born with the understanding. God’s word offers truth, love, and wisdom. God’s word lights our path and shows us where to step.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
- Rebuke/ Reproof
Rebuke means to express sharp disapproval or criticism of (someone) because of their behavior or actions. We are flesh and sometimes give in to the flesh because we are human and make mistakes, so we need to be rebuked. Being rebuked is a great blessing because we are being made more like God.
“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.”
Proverbs 3:11-12
- Correction/ Improving/ Straightening
Correct means to be free from error; in accordance with fact or truth/ put right. We all need correction as we walk this path. It is a blessing to be corrected so we can improve. There will be things we cannot see because they are so close to us but God’s word will reveal those shadows so we can be more God-like.
“My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction; For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights”
Proverbs 3:11-12
- Training in Virtues
Virtues mean having qualities considered desirable in a person/ Goodness. God’s word is training us to be virtuous so we may be profitable, holy, and more God-like living in love and loving one another. BEing virtuous means leaving a legacy of Love like God who is also forever. We see this in His word which will last forever.
“And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.”
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”
